The announcement was made by Jewel-Osco president Doug Cygan before he introduced Chance to the elated students at Clark High School in Chicago at a surprise assembly.

The donation is the largest in the company’s history and will benefit the New Chance Arts and Literature Fund, a partnership between SocialWorks, CPS and Ingenuity, an organization that advocates for arts education.

Chance’s SocialWorks organization has raised about $3 million for CPS since March. Along with the donation from Jewel-Osco, Chance recently partnered with the ride-sharing company Lyft where users could round their fare up to a dollar and donate the difference to support the New Chance Arts and Literature Fund.

From donating $1 million dollars to Chicago Public Schools, to giving $10,000 to 10 CPS schools, as well as another set of $10,000 donations to 12 more CPS schools (after the Chicago Bulls matched his $1 million donation), to raising $2.2 million for 20 CPS schools, to giving away 30,000 backpacks to Chicago’s children, Chance the Rapper has reminded us all how you can use the power of your platform to make a difference.
