Idris Elba is staying very busy these days!
The actor, writer, producer and sometimes rapper is gearing up for his next big film, “Concrete Cowboys,” a movie about Philadelphia’s Black cowboys.
Elba will play Harp, the estranged father of Stranger Things star, Caleb McLaughlin, who plays the part of Cole. 15 year old Cole goes to live with his father, where he is thrust into the world of the cowboys. The movie draws inspiration from the Black horseback riders of Fletcher Street in Philadelphia, who have a deep and entrenched history in the city. For more than 100 years, the North Philly riding club has been using horses to unify the community. The film is also based on the book “Ghetto Cowboy,” by Greg Neri.
Elba’s Green Door Pictures is partnering with Lee Daniels Entertainment to produce the film and Neri is coming on as an executive producer. Emmy nominated Jharrel Jerome (When They See Us), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is The New Black) and Byron Bowers (The Chi) are also set to play in the film.
Concrete Cowboys is currently in production and can’t wait for it to hit theaters!
