Simone Biles is on fire! During the World Championships in Germany, Biles officially secured her 21st World Gymnastics Championship medal with Team USA, making her the most decorated female gymnast in history, the Olympic Channel reports.
The superstar gymnast already has a lengthy list of accolades and she just keeps piling them up. During her performance in Stuttgart, Germany she completed a triple-double that includes a double backflip with three twists, now dubbed the “Biles II.” She also landed a double-double dismount from the balance beam which is comprised of a double twisting double backflip now aptly called the “Biles.”
According to NPR, in order for a gymnast to have a routine named after them they must submit it for consideration and successfully perform it at a major competition.
Biles spoke to the Olympic Channel saying, “I feel like I’m pretty pleased just because that’s how I train beam, and it finally felt good to go out there and hit a beam routine like I train because I feel like every time I go up to compete beam, I just bomb it. So it felt really good to just nail it,” she said.
In August, Biles became the first person in history to nail a double double landing on the beam and the first woman to land a triple double on the floor exercise at the 2019 USA Gymnastics Championships. This made her the first woman in almost 70 years to win U.S. all around titles
Biles also has two other moves named after her, the double layout with a half turn on the floor, and the roundoff half on, front layout double twist on vault.
Despite her accolades and impressive resume, the young gymnast is still humble. After winning the world championship with Team USA she said, “My goal going into tonight was to not be great … it wasn’t to do great, but just to do well, and I feel like I accomplished that.”
