Singer and songwriter Akon just signed a memorandum of agreement to build his own city in Senegal, The Grio reports.
Some time ago, Akon was gifted a 2,000-acre plot of land by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall. Last month, Akon spoke to media mogul Nick Cannon about his plans to build AKON CITY, which he calls, “Crypto City.”
“It’s all renewable, the Akon-tainment solar city. It’s all renewable. [It’s] a real physical place, it’s going to have a real airport. It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March and stage two is going to be in 2025,” Akon told Cannon.
The solar powered city, which will run off of electricity powered by Akon’s Lighting Africa Initiative and plans to thrive off of Akon’s cryptocurrency, Akoin, just became a real thing. The mega producer and multi-hyphenate entrepreneur took to social media to announce the finalizing of AKON CITY. “Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future,” Akon told his 6.6 million followers on Instagram.
The Senegalese native told Cannon that a city seems very logical and he wishes more wealthy people would build one. “When I travel I see so many things that happen. So many people that need … things to be resolved. And if you can have a billion dollars sitting in the bank, while you have all these people suffering, it’s crazy to me. It’s like a waste of a billion dollars,” he said.
Akon’s city will be built in the village of Mbodiene in Senegal.
Congratulations Akon! This is a game changer!
