Together Everyone Achieves More! NBA superstar Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha are donating to a local food bank in Oakland to help feed students amid closings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Enterprise reports.

The Currys are no stranger to good deeds. The two are just the latest in what will hopefully be a string of celebrities giving back in the midst of the coronavirus crisis. This week, they took to social media, posting a video to announce their pledge to donate money to help feed students during this time.

“We just found out that the Oakland Unified School District is closing its doors for the foreseeable future. We want to intercede on behalf of the kids who rely on their daily services and try to help any way we can,” Stephen said in the video.

“The statistics are really staggering. 18,000 kids rely on at least two meals a day from the school system, so we want to make sure that we rally around everyone and make sure these kids are not wondering where their next meal is coming from, and the parents, some are still having to go to work and worrying about the kids’ logistics … we’re just making sure there’s one less thing to worry about,” Ayesha added.

School districts across the country are closing in an attempt to stop the spread of the coronavirus in the U.S. and protect the most vulnerable populations. The closings have left city’s scrambling to figure out how to provide students and parents who may not be able to work with their most basic necessities.

Through their foundation, Eat.Learn.Play, the Currys have been advocates for solving childhood hunger in the Bay Area. They are donating funds to the Alameda County Community Food Bank to assist efforts to serve the students during this time. Twitter has also rallied donations for local food banks and as a result of the NBA shutdown, player Zion Williamson pledged to cover the salary for arena employees for the next month.

Support from everyone in their communities will be crucial as we navigate the coming weeks. Shout out to The Currys and everyone leading the charge.
