General Charles Q. Brown is making history as the first Black Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, BET reports.
Brown was confirmed by the Senate this week in a vote, 98-0. He has a distinguished career, including serving as commander of the Pacific Air Forces, Executive Director, Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff and Deputy Commander, U.S. Central Command.
U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral Jerome Adams tweeted congratulating Brown, saying, “Honored to congratulate @usairforce General Charles Brown at his historic swearing in as the 22nd (and the 1st African American) Air Force Chief of Staff.”
“It is a distinct honor for me to have this opportunity,” Brown said during his ceremony. He was officially sworn in on Thursday at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
