Let’s go!
Cecilia Rouse was nominated by President-elect Joe Biden to become chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (C.E.A.), making her the first Black woman to hold the title if confirmed, Essence reports.
Rouse is the dean of the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs and a former White House economic adviser during the Clinton and Obama administrations. During the 2008 recession, former head of the C.E.A. Austan Goolsbee said Rouse was “ahead of everyone” on pertinent issues. She has advocated for federal workers’ protection during the pandemic and believes now is an “opportunity to build a better economy in its wake.”
A two-time Harvard graduate, Rouse’s expertise is centered around studying discrimination and education. One of her most notable research papers focused on sexism in music auditions and symphony orchestras’ hiring process. Given her extensive background, many of her colleagues praised the nomination and felt like Rouse is most prepared to help lead the country.
“We need to be positioned for the economy of the future so that everyone is able to partake in the growth we hope to have. To that end, I am honored to have a chance to return to public service to help lead that charge,” Rouse said.
Congratulations Cecilia!
