The real-life Captain Planet!
Michael Regan was just confirmed by the Senate, making history as the first Black man to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USA Today reports.
This past December, it was announced that the Biden administration had tapped Regan to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. The North Carolina native got his start in the EPA, under the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, working in the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards. He soon after joined the Environmental Defense Fund advocacy group before leaving to start his consulting firm, M. Regan and Associates, eventually being named cabinet secretary for North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality.
This week, the Senate voted to confirm Regan, 66-34, garnering bipartisan support. Regan’s extensive resume will assist him in the new role where climate change and environmental protection regulations are a big issue. He will also focus on promoting green energy and addressing issues of environmental racism.
Regan was confirmed alongside Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge.
Congratulations, Senator Regan!
