This is the life!
A Texas woman won an international campaign paying $10k a month to learn about wine, The Grio reports.
Lindsay Perry was one of 7,000 applicants across the globe who applied to Murphy-Goode Winery’s “A Really Goode Job” campaign search. The job offered unbelievable perks for anyone wanting to learn about wine, including earning $10,000 a month and having the opportunity to live rent-free at a Sonoma County winery in California. After narrowing the search, the top 17 finalists headed to Healdsburg, California, where they spent a week meeting each other, employees and going through their final round of interviews.
Perry, a Pennsylvania native who currently works as a sports marketing professional, had already begun pursuing a career in the wine industry, receiving scholarships to complete the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) I and II via the Wine Unify and Roots Fund.
“I’ve completed WSET Levels I and II with the Napa Valley Wine Academy, so I’m able to recall hundreds of wine facts at the drop of a hat,” Perry stated in her application video.
The video, a spoof of a scene from the hit movie Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon, got company officials’ attention. Eventually, the company chose the 28-year-old as the campaign’s winner for her creativity, sense of humor, drive, and passion for wine.
As part of her responsibilities, Perry will learn and grow the company’s e-commerce, work with a team to drive awareness, and build demand for Murphy Goode Winery. She will also shadow winemaker Dave Ready Jr., and the winemaking team, assisting them with harvesting and operations. In return, Perry will be housed in Sonoma County, California, rent-free for a year, earn a $10k monthly salary and receive 30 cases of Murphy-Goode wine to take home when her term is done.
“Working for Murphy-Goode Winery will present a unique challenge and represent a big pivot in my life. I’ll be jumping into the wine industry in the best way possible. Having the opportunity to shadow Dave, learn to make wine, and grow professionally through this year of exploration, will change the trajectory of my life,” said Perry.
Perry was chosen alongside another winner, 28-year-old Veronica Hebbard, who currently works as an engineer. The company said they look forward to working with both women and making their dream jobs come true.
“When we started out on this journey, we cast the net wide to find candidates with unique experiences and points of view. I’m looking forward to working with Lindsay and Veronica this harvest, but also learning from each of them and seeing what new ideas they will bring to the job,” Murphy-Goode said via statement.
Perry will begin shadowing Ready for 90 days starting September 1st before transitioning into a role aligned with her interests and expertise.
Congratulations, Lindsay! Have a glass for us!
