Black joy is everlasting!
Black people are dynamic beings who’ve managed to find joy during even the bleakest of times, but we don’t always have access to those happy moments.
Over the weekend, Twitter user Tiffany Flowers put out a call to action for people to share images of our ancestors enjoying life. She posted a picture of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer with her husband to get the ball rolling. The internet responded in droves, sharing their own photos of Black leaders in various moments of delight, and we love it.
These photos are a reminder that regardless of what we’re going through, we’ve always managed to find our North Star. Joy is the act of resistance they have passed down through the generations to guide us through any trials and tribulations that may come.
Thank you, ancestors. Because of you, we can!
