This is a diverse lineup!
Dionne Warwick, Fela Kuti, Lionel Richie and A Tribe Called Quest (ATCQ), have all been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2022, CNN reports.
The nominees were announced earlier this week, many of the nominees receiving the honor for the first time, including A Tribe Called Quest and Lionel Richie, WBLS reports. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first commercial recording. This is the second time Dionne Warwick has been nominated.
A committee of more than 1,000 artists, music historians and industry professionals vote on the nominees, judging an artist’s influence on other musicians, their body of work and the “length and depth of career.” Fans can also cast their votes once a day from now until April 29th at www.rockhall.com.
ATCQ member Jarobi White took to social media to share his excitement about the nomination, encourage fans to vote for them, and pay tribute to their late group member, Phife Dawg.
“Wow. This is unbelievable. 4 kids from Queens. Just making music we felt. I’m so grateful to everyone who’s ever even heard a Tribe record. On one hand I’m…elated. On the other hand, I wish Phife was here to see the fruit of his labor. We still need you guys’ help to get in though. I just got off the phone with Kamal. We want to get in so bad. Just so we can get on that stage and yell at the top of our lungs… ‘Phife Dawg!!!!!!!!!’ Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!,” White wrote.
The five artists to receive the most votes will be inducted into the class of 2022 this May. Previous inductees include Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Biggie, Jay Z, LL Cool J, and Tina Turner, who made history as the second woman to be inducted into the HOF twice.
