The resemblance is striking!
First look photos of Regina King as Shirley Chisholm have been released.
This past December, we reported that production on the new “Shirley” film, starring Regina King as the first Black congresswoman, was underway. The new movie centers around Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign where she made history as the first Black woman to run for president. The film takes an intimate look into the significance of Chisholm’s campaign and her role as a pioneering political leader.
Production is currently taking place in King’s hometown of Cincinnati and is the Academy Award winner’s first time being seen since the tragic passing of her only son. Donned in glasses and a mushroom updo, King’s resemblance to the political powerhouse is astonishing.
No word yet on when “Shirley” is expected to hit Netflix but you can check out the first look photos below.

In the meantime, we’re continuing to send King so much love and light as she gets back to work.
