They are living by the name!
Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company has signed a multi-project, multi-year first-look production deal with Amazon’s Audible, CNN Business reports.
Higher Ground, founded by the Obamas in 2018, produces all types of media from podcasts to film and television. The production company’s first film release, “American Factory,” won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and “The Michelle Obama Podcast” is one of the most listened to podcasts on Spotify to date. Higher Ground’s sole goal is to tell powerful stories that entertain, educate, and inspire all while making voices big and small, from all walks of life, are heard.
Obamas ended their partnership with Spotify back in April, three years after first inking a deal with the audio streaming platform in 2019. Now they are sailing new seas by signing a new deal with Amazon’s Audible.
“At Higher Ground, we have always sought to lift up voices that deserve to be heard — and Audible is invested in realizing that vision alongside us,” our Forever President Obama said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to partnering with them to tell stories that not only entertain but also inspire.”
Forever First Lady Obama added: “We are so proud of the stories we have been able to tell at Higher Ground, and there’s no one we’d rather write our next chapter with than Audible. Together, we will keep striving to tell compelling, provocative, and soulful stories — while doing everything we can to make sure they reach the folks who need to hear them.”
This deal will give Higher Ground new reach, with their content soon to be distributed globally. This will also pair perfectly with the exclusive production deal they have with Netflix.
Audible’s Founder and Executive Chairman Don Katz shared the podcast company’s sentiments on partnering with the Obamas, sharing: “We have long recognized President and Mrs. Obama’s historic capacity to captivate, we are thrilled to welcome two of the most profound voices of moral and intellectual leadership of our times into the Audible fold, and to be able to elevate President and Mrs. Obama’s singular ability to provide hope and uplifting guidance—needed now more than ever—through their voices.”
