They’re building bridges!

Chicago artists Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa took a group of teens to Ghana, Travel Noire reports.

In early 2022, Chance The Rapper took a trip to Ghana, falling in love with the country and making a declaration in partnership with fellow Chicago native, Vic Mensa, to bring a larger group back soon.

Now the artists have made good on their promise, taking a group of teens from Chicago to Ghana to reconnect with their roots. Both artists took to social media to share recaps of the trip, the teens enjoying a transformational trip filled with education, art, food, fun, and of course music.

“A year ago, we had the idea to take a group of kids from Chicago to Ghana. There are some things about yourself that you can only understand by knowing where you come from. Our dream is to build bridges that cross the ocean of divide created by the transatlantic slave trade. Today we are one step closer to actualizing that dream,” Mensa captioned a picture of the group.

During the initial trip, both Chance and Mensa met with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo to explore ways they can bridge the gap between American and Ghanaian artists while building connections for Black people across the globe. Dubbed the “Black Star Line” festival, a music concert featuring several recording artists is expected to kick off January 2023.

“The concert would look at building a bridge between Black people on the continent, those in the diaspora, and the people of the glove as well as some of the biggest acts in the world,” said Mensa.

We love to see it! Here’s to reconnecting with your ancestral roots and learning where you came from.
