What started as a one-man show in a dorm room is now a company generating $110 million with 40 employees, AfroTech reports.
Black startups are taking the tech and funding world by storm. These sisters raised $2.2 million in funding for their HR platform, and Joanna Smith secured $12.1 million in venture capital for her edtech company, AllHere.
But it doesn’t stop there. Meet Josh Aviv, the founder and CEO of SparkCharge, an on-demand electric vehicle charging station company. He started this company with the goal of making charging stations more accessible for electric vehicle owners. “We realized that as society was moving forward, everything was being brought on-demand and made convenient, but when it came to electric vehicles, it was always this notion of, ‘I have to go find, sit, and wait at a charger,’ which made owning an electric vehicle a hassle,” Aviv told AfroTech.
“We developed and launched the world’s first on-demand EV charging mobile app, called Currently EV, where an EV owner can select how much range they want, where they want it and with the push of a button, get it delivered.”
In 2022, SparkCharge delivered one million miles of range to EV owners and company partners. The company offers this service in select cities, including Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Raleigh, Richmond, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz.
You go, Aviv!
