He is such a sweet soul!
In the heart of the vibrant city of New Orleans, amidst the historic charm of St. Charles Avenue, lies a place that stands as a beacon of history and hospitality. Don Hubbard, affectionately known as “Mr. Don,” is the remarkable owner of the only Black-owned bed and breakfast that sits on this iconic avenue, the Hubbard Mansion.
Mr. Don built this house for his wife 25 years ago, making his family the second Black family to own property on St. Charles Avenue. Today, guests such as content creator Eva Lewis get to step through the doors of the mansion, where you’re not only welcomed into the beautiful establishment but get the opportunity to immerse yourself in rich Black history. As Lewis documented her wonderful stay at the bed and breakfast, she gave us a sneak peek of his enchanting family photos, elegant decor, and the marvelous breakfast that other guests can experience.
The Hubbard Mansion stands tall as a testament to the deep impact African-Americans have on the rich tapestry of America. Through his hard work and dedication, Mr. Don has created a space where these stories are cherished, retold, and celebrated. In the words of Mr. Don, “Come on if you’re coming, and if you’re coming, come on!”
