It’s a first for historically Black colleges and universities!

The San Antonio Spurs’ G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, are set to make history by participating in the first G League game at an HBCU, Kens 5 News reports. The Spurs will face off against the Texas Legends at Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas. The event will be the first time a G League game is played on a historically Black college campus.

Paul Quinn is a private, faith-based liberal arts college founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The oldest HBCU west of the Mississippi, Paul Quinn also happens to be the only HBCU in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

The Austin-Legends game will take place at the HBCU Classic alongside another game featuring the Paul Quinn women’s basketball team, who will play against Texas Wesleyan. The entire event is sponsored by Thrivent Financial, NBA G League reports.

“We’re honored to participate in the first ever HBCU Classic at Paul Quinn College. We truly appreciate our longstanding partnerships with both the Texas Legends and Thrivent Financial,” said Tim Salier, Spurs Senior VP of Business Development & President of Business Operations.

Attendees can purchase tickets at the door or stream the event live via Urban Edge Networks’ HBCU+ app. The HBCU Classic is set to take place on November 4th at Paul Quinn with the women’s team playing at 1:30pm followed by the Spurs and Texas Legend game at 4pm.

“We are thrilled to host our first Thrivent HBCU Classic at Paul Quinn. Our partnership with Paul Quinn and Thrivent continues to grow and strengthen and this is an exciting next step…The event is multi-purpose. We’re looking forward to getting our fans a preview of the season while showcasing Paul Quinn’s top-notch facilities, campus, and staff.  We get to draw attention to the talent in HBCUs, especially here locally, promote these teams on our stage, and introduce our fans to PQC and ways they can get involved in the Quinnite Nation,” said Legends President Malcolm Farmer. “
