Ray Bethea was honored on national TV!
Good Morning America‘s Ike Ejioch surprised the Buncombe County school custodian, Ray Bethea, by featuring him on the show’s “Ray of Sunshine” segment. Bethea works at Community High School in Swannanoa, North Carolina, and was celebrated by students, faculty, and staff for being a wonderful addition to the community.
His wife, Deloris, attended the celebration and later spoke with News 13 about the experience. “It was amazing, very nice. I appreciate everything that has been done for him he deserves every bit,” she said.
GMA gifted Ray and Deloris tickets to see his favorite singer, Lionel Richie, in Las Vegas with a two-night stay at Caesar’s Palace. Ray was overcome with emotion after seeing the gymnasium full of people.
People were quick to leave positive comments on the GMA video shared on Facebook. One person wrote, “Love this, I have two teachers in my family & it is SO important to recognize & bless all who work with our children!!! Thank you for sharing.”
Another person added, “Awesome story. It means so much when administrators and staff recognize some of the most essential staff in a school. The students expressed some of the most powerful words that he encouraged them through some tough times. We need more like Captain Ray…Let’s all work together to help our students excel and give them hope!”
