Russell Westbrook was fresh off of a win with the Los Angeles Clippers against the Brooklyn Nets when he was interviewed by Bally Sports West. Asked how he felt about the win, Westbrook paused a moment to give unsuspecting sports reporter Rahshaun Haylock some recognition. Apparently, Haylock had just gotten a promotion, and Westbrook urged the crowd at the Crypto.com arena to give him a round of applause.
“Russ, what do you?,” Haylock began before being cut off.
“First of all, no. Congratulations to you, bro. First night tonight, give a round of applause for my boy [he’s] been doing this for a long time. Congratulations, brother,” Westbrook said as he embraced Haylock.
“Preciate you, brother,” Haylock said, beaming with pride.
It was a short but heartwarming moment as the interview blasted out of the arena speakers. And according to Awful Annnouncing.com, it’s been a long moment coming for Haylock. Haylock graduated from college in 2005. Since then, he’s served in a number of capacities, working as a production assistant with the NFL Network, as a reporter and writer for Fox Sports West and KTLA, as well as a play-by-play voice for the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks.
Now, he’s worked his way up through the ranks to provide post-game coverage for Bally Sports West. If showing off your chops on air wasn’t enough, what better way to launch your new position than with a stamp of approval from an NBA MVP. Congratulations Rahshaun!
