Move over, Charlie Brown! It’s Franklin’s turn in the driver’s seat.
Apple TV+ just dropped the trailer for an all-new Peanuts special centering around the one and only Franklin and how he came to be part of the Peanuts crew. “Snoopy’s Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin” is the backstory to one of the most beloved Black cartoon characters that we’ve been waiting for.
In the new special, we learn all about Franklin’s background (including his last name!) and how, after moving all around the world with his military family, he comes to a new neighborhood and meets the Peanuts for the first time. Franklin has a notebook with advice from his grandfather about sparking new friendships, but still, he is seeing for himself that “making new friends can be hard.” That is until the soap box derby comes to town. Franklin is sure that winning the race will mean winning friends and with Charlie Brown as his partner, what can go wrong? Well… several things but, as Franklin himself points out, “Friendships are not perfect. But we can get through the rough spots together.”
This Apple TV+ original is directed by the Emmy Award-winning Raymond S. Persi, who brought us such hits as “The Simpsons” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” and is co-written by Robb Armstrong (“Jump Start”) along with Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, from an original story by Armstrong and Scott Montgomery.
Finally, Franklin has a seat at the table and maybe even a new place to call home. “Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin” comes to the streaming service on February 16.
