Disney has announced its highly-anticipated animated series, Iwájú, is set to grace our screens, offering a vibrant and futuristic narrative woven into the rich culture of Lagos, Nigeria. This Disney Animation project, set to debut on Disney+ on February 28th, is not just a series—it’s a celebration of African culture, innovation, and the boundless possibilities of the future.

Directed by Olufikayo Ziki Adeola and brought to life by a team of visionary filmmakers, Iwájú ventures into uncharted territory, exploring a futuristic Lagos where technology and tradition coexist. At the heart of this captivating coming-of-age tale are Tola, a young girl hailing from the affluent island, and her clever best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert. Together, their journey unveils the secrets and risks concealed within their distinct worlds.
The creative minds behind Iwájú, including production designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku, have crafted a world with unique visual elements and technological marvels–all inspired by the vibrant spirit of Lagos. The series not only promises an engaging storyline but also aesthetically-pleasing animation that pays homage to the rich heritage and future potential of the African continent.
