Check the forecast, a purple rain is expected to fall on theaters real soon.
Ryan Coogler, the brilliant mind behind Marvel’s Black Panther films is set to produce a new jukebox musical film featuring the music of the one and only Prince for Universal Pictures, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The as of now untitled project has been in development since 2018 with a script from Bryan Edward Hill. However other details like the title, plot, director, cast, and release date have yet to be announced.
Prince, who tragically passed away on April, 21 2016, is a music and fashion icon whose poignant lyrics, gender nonconforming style, and private persona cemented his legacy as one of the most influential artists of all time. The artist has an array of hits including “When Doves Cry,” “Kiss,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and more which all topped the Billboard Hot 100.
Prince also took his talents to the screen and starred in the cult classic musical Purple Rain and even snagged an Oscar for best original song score for the title track, which remains one of the most recognizable and iconic songs in music history. The film celebrates its 40th anniversary this July. A stage adaptation of Purple Rain is expected to premiere next spring in Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
