This past week, Caleb Williams, a native of D.C., achieved a significant milestone in his career. He was drafted as a first-round pick by the Chicago Bears. This moment, filled with excitement and a sense of fulfillment, marked a full circle for the Heisman Trophy-winning athlete. The NFL, in a heartwarming gesture, crafted a series of NFL Draft Letters from the players’ loved ones to show support for the recently drafted NFL players. As Caleb, with headphones on, prepared for the surprise moment, the emotions started to overflow.

His mom, Dayne Price, opened the letter with a light-hearted comment about Caleb’s emotional side: “You must’ve got that crying for me.” As she reminisced about Caleb’s early years and his early passion for the sport, she recalled that her son had always been destined for this moment.
“When you were about six months, you would climb out of your crib…Who knew the arm strength that you would carry into today? At eight months, you begin to run, and as we watch you today, you haven’t stopped running…To see you live out your childhood dream today…I’m so happy to be able to be a part of this journey. As I’ve always said, I’ve learned so much from you,” said Price.
Caleb was full of emotion, pulling out the tissues as he fought hard to hold back the tears and respond to his mom. He took a moment to reflect on how far he’d come and how integral she was in that process for him. Choked up, the rising quarterback expressed his immense love and gratitude for all his mom had done.
“When I made the decision that this was going to be what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. There were some tough mornings and evenings, and she was always — I let out a few tears because there were days I didn’t want to do it, days I didn’t want to get up, and she’s just been there to support me, been there for me. She’s not into all the rah-rah; she doesn’t care about it. She just wants to see me in joy, so it’s pretty special. She’s a wonderful lady, my best friend…She’s great, I love her,” said Caleb.
