There’s a doctor in the house!

This past June, Nancy Abu-Bonsrah took to social media to announce that after 12 years of schooling, she had finally become a neurosurgery doctor. Sharing a post of her surrounded by family, many congratulated her on a job well done.

But it turns out that Dr. Nancy’s graduation was actually historic. Her friend Anna made sure it was known that Dr. Nancy was, in fact, the first Black woman to graduate from a neurosurgery program at Johns Hopkins University.

“Congratulations to my dear friend, and the first Black woman to graduate from the neurosurgery program at John’s Hopkins, Dr. Nancy Abu-Bonsrah!,” wrote Anna.

The floods of congratulations poured in, many noting how remarkable it was to see a woman go into neurosurgery. With so much promise on the horizon, Dr. Nancy is blazing a trail with plans to head to a community practice in Pennsylvania at UPMC Williamsport this fall!

Congratulations!
