There’s a new cowboy in town!

Shaboozey is a country artist who credits his love for the genre to his Nigerian father.

“You know, not only does he listen to, you know, traditional, like, Nigerian music, but he was playing me people like Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson and showing me all this stuff. You know, it’s definitely something that he listened to and kind of, you know, would show me from time to time, Shaboozey told NPR.

So when he began his own foray into the music industry, it was only fitting that he make a country album, gaining notoriety after being featured on Beyonce’s hit album, “Cowboy Carter.” Now Shaboozey’s “A Bar Son (Tipsy)” has earned its 12th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the biggest country charting hit of the decade globally, Billboard reports.

The song, which samples J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy,” first hit the charts at No. 1 this July. It has now sat at the charts twice as long as any other No. 1 this year and ties for the third-longest No. 1 song this decade. Billboard’s Hot 100 is compiled from all-genre U.S. songs on streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay, and sales data. Sales are recorded from purchases of physical singles, digital tracks, and full-service digital music retailers.

In addition to his historic Billboard charting song, Shaboozey was also featured on Barack Obama’s 2024 Summer Playlist and won a People’s Choice Country Award. Not bad for a kid from the DMV!
