Cissy Houston, two-time Grammy winner, legendary singer, and beloved mother of the late Whitney Houston, has passed away at the age of 91, as reported by CBS News. Her daughter-in-law, Pat Houston, shared that Cissy passed peacefully in her New Jersey home on Monday morning, surrounded by loved ones, after being in hospice care for Alzheimer’s.
“Mother Cissy has been a strong and towering figure in our lives. A woman of deep faith and conviction, who cared greatly about family, ministry, and community. Her more than seven-decade career in music and entertainment will remain at the forefront of our hearts,” Pat Houston said in a statement.
A celebrated gospel icon, Cissy Houston was a founding member of The Sweet Inspirations, alongside Doris Troy and her niece Dee Dee Warwick. She also lent her powerful voice to artists like Otis Redding and Dionne Warwick before launching her own successful solo career, winning Grammys for her gospel albums “Face to Face” and “He Leadeth Me.”
Now reunited with her daughter Whitney and granddaughter Bobbi Kristina, Cissy’s impact on music and those who loved her will never be forgotten. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family and all who cherished her. Rest in peace, Cissy Houston.♥️
