She’s reshaping Black fashion history!
Shelby Ivey Christie, a renowned fashion and costume historian, has spent years shedding light on the often-overlooked contributions of Black icons in the fashion industry. Recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and one of Vogue Business’s 100 Innovators, Christie has over a decade of leadership experience at brands like Nike, Vogue, and L’Oréal. Through her platform, @bronze_bombshel on X (formerly Twitter), she has educated thousands with little-known facts about Black fashion history.
Now, Christie is taking her mission to the next level with Haute Heritage Publishing, her new venture focused on reshaping fashion history. Her first major project is Black Fashion Legends Alphabet, an engaging ABC-style book that highlights key Black fashion figures like Beverly Johnson and André Leon Talley. Featuring a foreword by stylist June Ambrose, and accompanied by a matching flashcard set, this book serves as an accessible resource for readers of all ages, aiming to educate and inspire a new generation.
Through Haute Heritage Publishing, Christie hopes to make fashion education more inclusive, stating, “We envision a future where fashion education is inclusive and accessible to everyone. By sharing these stories, we aim to inspire those beyond the traditional fashion hubs and create pathways for diverse talent to enter the industry,” @hauteheritagepub’s website reads.
