He is a true hometown hero!
In a heartwarming celebration of down-home pride, Grammy award-winning artist T-Pain was honored with a street renaming in his hometown of Tallahassee, Florida, Billboard reports. A portion of Pasco Street, a road the artist regularly walked as a child, has been officially designated as “T-Pain Lane.”
The renaming ceremony took place on November 10th, 2024, and was attended by local officials, friends, and fans. Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey praised T-Pain for his contributions to music and the city of Tallahassee, which inspired his musical moniker, “Tallahassee Pain.” In addition to the street renaming, Dailey also presented Pain with the keys to the city.
“Today, I had the incredible honor of presenting @TPain with the Key to the City in recognition of his contributions to music and his ongoing commitment to this community. As a hometown hero, T-Pain has inspired countless fans and artists worldwide, and we’re proud to call him one of our own…Thank you, T-Pain, for making us #TallahasseeProud!” Dailey wrote in a post on X.
T-Pain, whose real name is Faheem Rasheed Najm, rose to fame in the mid-2000s with his distinctive auto-tune vocal style. Hits like “I’m Sprung” and “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” catapulted him to international stardom. In recent years, the rapper has had a resurgence, appearing on The Masked Singer and finding success in the gaming industry. In celebration of Tallahassee’s bicentennial festivities, T-Pain performed a medley of his hits and took to social media to express his gratitude.
“Thank you Mayor Dailey, the Tallahassee commissioners, and the people of the city that never stopped believing in me. This honor means so much. There’s no T-Pain without Tallahassee,” he wrote.
