This is precisely what the kids need!
Actor Michael Rainey Jr. (PowerBook II: Ghost) just teamed up with the R.A.R.E. (Restoring America through Recovery Education) Foundation to donate $2.4M in financial literacy services for three high schools in his hometown of Staten Island, New York, The Source reports. Rainey Jr. joined students at Port Richmond High School to talk to teens about his personal financial literacy journey and the importance of preparing yourself financially as you prepare to become an adult.
The R.A.R.E. Foundation is an initiative dedicated to training and empowering underserved communities to be more financially literate. In addition to the partnership with Rainey, the foundation has also partnered with other notable celebs to launch similar initiatives across New York City, including Tashera Simmons, who partnered with rap supergroup The L.O.X. to donate money for 7,000 Yonkers students to receive financial literacy services through R.A.R.E.
“At The R.A.R.E. Foundation…we are dedicated to giving every individual the opportunity to recover, improve, and thrive financially. Our mission is rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of their past or current circumstances, deserves a respectable chance to achieve financial stability and success,” a statement on the website reads.
The foundation focuses on partnering with notable influencers and organizations that can help fund financial services for veterans, returning citizens, and students. Rainey Jr.’s funding will provide students at Staten Island high schools with identity protection, credit monitoring, and access to a financial literacy digital curriculum that will help them secure a bright financial future. The program aims to empower the next generation through practical tools to help them navigate the ever-changing economy.
“Huge THANK YOU to @michaelraineyjr for sponsoring Port Richmond High School and providing every student and their parents with essential Financial Literacy Education and Equifax Identity Theft Protection! Your commitment to empowering the next generation is truly inspiring…this marks the first step in our mission to ensure every student in NYC is financially prepared for adulthood,” the foundation captioned a recap of the event on social media.
