Issa Rae has opened a new restaurant in South Central Los Angeles. Somerville is located on the Slauson Corridor in the historic View Park-Windsor Hills neighborhood and touts itself as “a progressive American dining experience.” The restaurant honors South Central, with each dish focused on bold and savory dishes that capture the essence of California. The media mogul took to social media to share pictures from the launch and talk a little about the inspiration behind her new venture.
“Always wanted a neighborhood lounge to complement the special community that is View Park-Windsor Hills…Thanks to all who came to support this first weekend!,” wrote Rae.
The “Insecure” creator called the new restaurant an homage to Black South Central L.A. with a fantastic ambiance and delicious food and cocktails. Rae’s friends and peers, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Yvonne Orji, Robin Thede, and Lil Rel Howery, attended the launch.
Somerville is the latest in Rae’s fast-growing empire. In 2019, she opened Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen in her hometown of Inglewood, and last year, she launched her new Viarae prosecco line. The new restaurant is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday from 6 pm-11 pm PT. To make your reservation at Somerville, visit www.somervilleslauson.com.
