She’s the new general manager of the team she used to play for!
Former Connecticut Sun player Morgan Tuck has just been promoted to general manager of the WNBA franchise, Black Enterprise reports. Tuck began her career as a star college athlete at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she helped lead the team to four consecutive NCCA championships. In 2016, she became the number three draft pick for the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, spending four seasons with the team before rounding out her WNBA career with the Seattle Storm, winning a championship in 2020.
In 2021, Tuck returned home to the Sun franchise, this time in an executive role as the Director of Franchise Development. Two years later, she became the Assistant General Manager for the franchise. Now, she has been promoted to general manager, replacing current GM Darius Taylor, who will now lead the Sun as chief basketball strategist and director of scouting. Taylor called the promotion a full-circle moment for Tuck.
“Morgan is a rising star in this industry. Watching her grow into the front office executive she has become has been nothing short of amazing. Her career has come full circle with the Connecticut Sun organization. I know she will be instrumental in propelling this organization to its fullest potential,” said Taylor.
Now, Tuck will help usher the franchise into its next era, a job she said she’s ecstatic to begin. The Connecticut Sun have made many playoff appearances but remain the oldest WNBA franchise without a championship title, something Tuck hopes to change soon.
“I am honored and excited to take on this new role with the Sun. Being able to be a part of this organization in various roles has prepared me for this moment, and I’m extremely appreciative for the guidance and support that I have received from our staff and ownership group,” said Tuck via statement.
“This is an exciting time for the Sun, and I’m eager to work alongside our coaching staff, players, and front office to continue the pursuit of our first championship. I look forward to this new chapter and the challenges ahead as we aim to maintain a winning culture and create lasting memories for our fans,” she added.
