They’re making waves in sports and fashion!
WNBA star Angel Reese and 3x Olympic Gold Track Medalist Gabby Thomas have graced the cover of Vogue’s 2025 Winter issue. Champions in their individual sports, the ladies sat down with the iconic fashion magazine to talk about their passion for fashion.
Reese earned a name for herself as the “Bayou Barbie” in college, known as much off the court for her glam as she was on the court for her skills. The WNBA Chicago Sky star said she has loved fashion just as long as she loved basketball, crediting her mom with inspiring her love for clothes.
“It’s always been both: basketball and fashion. I was always in my mom’s closet, putting on her stuff. I liked to carry a purse. Hair done. I wanted to look put together. I still do,” explained Reese.
Meanwhile, Thomas said she’s just getting started in fashion. After winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, Thomas has been spending her downtime modeling, even presenting the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award last year. Thomas studied neurobiology and global health at Harvard and says fashion is just the next step in her journey.
“I’ve been so in athlete-world, I feel like I’m just starting to get a sense of what I like. Not that I don’t have my own style. I do, but then I put on something like that white Carolina Herrera dresses that I wore to the show, and it’s like, Oh, oh-kaay, said Thomas.
Both women have plans to continue forging a path in fashion and seeing where it takes them, with Reese saying she wants to do Paris Fashion Week this year. Also featured in the cover story are Francis Tiafoe and Jayson Tatum, who spoke on how they’ve balanced sports and fashion. The fashion world is gravitating to more sports stars as the lines between influencer and athlete continue to blur. And with so much promise for the young sports stars, the possibilities are endless.
