He wants to give back to his hometown!
At just 21 years old, Jayden Williams is already charting an extraordinary path in public service. The Clark Atlanta University (CAU) student and Stockbridge, Georgia native has made history as the youngest person ever to run for mayor in his hometown, Blavity reports. But for Williams, breaking barriers is nothing new—he’s been leading the charge for change from a young age.
“Although I will graduate from Clark Atlanta University before the election in November, it was important for me to announce my candidacy as an undergraduate,” Williams told HBCU Buzz. “Public service is just as essential as education—fulfilling our civic duties holds the same weight as attending class.”
Currently pursuing a degree in political science, Williams is already a trailblazer in government. As Georgia’s youngest-ever Planning Commissioner, he’s played a key role in shaping his community’s future. His resume also includes serving as State Conference President of the Georgia NAACP Youth & College Division, Freshman Class President at Clark Atlanta, and a two-time White House Scholar.
“Stockbridge raised me, but Clark Atlanta educated me,” Williams said proudly. “The rich history and legacy of CAU have profoundly shaped my journey, and I carry that legacy with pride as I work to serve our community.”
His family roots run deep in public service. Inspired by his grandmother, Vivian Thomas, who served as a commissioner for Henry County District 4, Williams learned early on the importance of giving back. “Raised by a military mom and an entrepreneurial father, I learned the importance of perseverance, service, and living by the belief that service is the rent we pay to exist on this earth,” he said.
Williams’ vision for Stockbridge reflects his dedication to his hometown. He’s focused on creating affordable housing, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering economic development. Recognizing the vital role small businesses play in Stockbridge’s economy, Williams is committed to helping them thrive.
“Our small business owners and marginalized business owners are the heartbeat of our city and the epicenter of what brings Stockbridge together,” Williams said. “We don’t have many corporations in our area, so a lot of our economic development comes from our small businesses.”
Williams also hopes to mobilize young people in his community, encouraging them to engage in STEM, liberal arts, and extracurricular activities that build advocacy skills. “I want to ensure we’re encouraging and pushing for young people to get engaged … to make them local advocates and mobilize in our community,” he shared.
As he hits the campaign trail, Williams emphasizes the importance of connecting directly with the people of Stockbridge. His plans include initiatives like a Mayor’s Town Hall forum to amplify community voices. “Community involvement is at the heart of my decision-making process because the best solutions come from those directly affected by the issues we face,” he said.
While the journey ahead may be challenging, Williams remains optimistic. “We’ve already started on the campaign trail, and you can clearly tell they’re in search of a candidate/mayor that wants to move in a different direction and to move forward,” he told The Atlanta Voice. “I’m happy to be the youngest candidate in this race, and I’ll be even more happy when we win.”
Jayden Williams’ story is a powerful reminder that age is no barrier to leadership. Fueled by the legacy of those who came before him, his bold vision for the future of Stockbridge is a testament to the power of service, perseverance, and community. Already a trailblazer, despite the outcome of the election, Williams’ mayoral run means Stockbridge—and the next generation of young leaders—can dream bigger.
