A prime choice for leadership!
E-commerce giant Amazon just named Alicia Boler Davis as the first Black woman to join the ranks of its senior team, Fast Company reports.
Davis joined the company in 2019 and works as vice president of global customer fulfillment. The exec is making history as the fourth female and first Black member to join the S-team. This elite inner circle of leaders sets the company’s priorities alongside Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos.
Before she joined Amazon, Davis served as GM’s head of global manufacturing. Her appointment to the S-team comes at a time when inclusion is being brought to the forefront for the company. According to company statistics, men made up 57 percent of Amazon’s workforce in 2019, but 73 percent of managers. For years, the team was primarily composed of a small group of executives working closely with Bezos, who are mostly white and male, even though more than a quarter of Amazon’s workforce is Black. Amazon adopted a rule requiring it to consider women and people of color in vacancies on its board of directors.

Following criticism around the company’s lack of racial and gender diversity, Bezos appointed Fashion VP Christine Beauchamp and Advertising VP Colleen Aubrey to the S-team. Davis joins the two alongside VP of global delivery services John Felton and VP of eCommerce Foundation Dave Treadwell.
Following the announcement Amazon Worldwide Consumer Division Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Wilke, who’s retiring soon praised her leadership acumen and said she was “off to a great start” at Amazon.
According to Bloomberg, there are currently 26 members on the S-team debating big ideas for Amazon.
