They’re giving back to their alma maters in a major way!
Bishop Kim W. Brown and his wife, Elder Valerie K. Brown, are the founders of K.W. International Ministries Incorporated, a Virginia-based Christian ministry that the two have been helming for over two decades. The couple are pillars in the community, hosting various faith-based leadership conferences, giving back to the youth in the community, supporting COVID relief efforts, and supporting military families during Christmas. They also have two television shows focused on Christian principles, developing healthy marriages, and they are best-selling authors.
Now, the couple is expanding their imprint into academia, recently announcing that they have both become Rectors at their HBCU alma maters. A Rector is one of the highest-ranking positions at a university and is usually elected by the academic community. In addition to acting as ceremonial head of the university, the rector is also responsible for helming the university board and making decisions on behalf of the school. Both Browns are serving at their alma maters, Dr. Kim Brown serving as Rector of Norfolk State University and Elder Valerie Brown serving as Rector of Virginia State University. The Brown’s appointment is historic, marking the first time ever that a couple is serving as HBCU Rectors at the same time.
Elder Brown took to social media to announce the news, sharing a picture of her and her husband in full regalia, saying they are honored and very proud.
“We love our Alma maters, and it is a pleasure for both of us to serve and give back to the universities that gave us our start,” wrote Elder Brown.
