Jamaica! Jamaica!

Rojé Stona just made history at the Paris Olympics, winning the first-ever Olympic gold medal in the discus throw event for Jamaica, Jamaica Observer reports. The star track and field athlete competed in the men’s discus throw this past Wednesday, earning a throw of 70.00m in the competition and setting a new Olympic record, beating out the previous record of 69.89m set by Virgilijus Alekna at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Stona was one of three Jamaicans to make the final, his record marking not only the first Olympic gold medal for the island of Jamaica in the competition but also the first gold medal in any throwing event at a senior level in any major global championship. This is the first Olympic medal for Stona,” AOL.com reports.

“This is what I’ve been preparing for. This is what I dreamed of. To come here and actually do it, it’s one of the best feelings of my life,” he told reporters.
