Oh, it’s lit!
These HBCU alums are making history after launching the first Black-owned alcohol delivery service, Black Enterprise reports.
Navarros Grevious and Mikael Pyles are the owners of QuikLiq, an app that allows customers to get wine, beer, and, spirits delivered to the comfort of their homes. The two are Clark Atlanta University graduates who used their expertise to take over a new niche in the market. They first came up with the idea nine years ago, with a third co-founder and fellow CAU classmate, Aaron Carter. They officially launched in 2018.
Grievous serves as CEO, utilizing his background in finance and accounting to craft and execute the business model. Pyles works alongside him as president and chief strategy officer, using his business administration degree to oversee day-to-day operations.
“For us, starting off QuikLiq as three African-American males and HBCU grads, trying to get in and somewhat disrupt the tech industry, especially in connection to alcohol, it was certainly an uphill battle,” Pyles told The Grio.
“When we came up with the idea for QuikLiq in 2011, there was nothing like it in the industry at all. We were the first to start developing this concept, but we found very early on that this thing was going to be expensive. Not only is starting a business in most cases costly, but when you’re talking about the fusion of alcohol and tech, it definitely calls for a nice starting nest egg if you will.”
“QuikLiq is a tech-forward digital marketplace that provides our customers with access to the best selection of wine, beer, and spirits,” a statement on the website reads. “By partnering with the premiere alcohol retailers along Miami Beach and throughout the U.S., we have set out to enhance the way our customers and retail partners interact through digital engagement. With just a click, we are bringing the essence of Miami Beach and all the great vibes that come with it, right to your home.”
The site offers premium tequilas, whiskey, mixers, and champagne for sale, with delivery fees beginning at $7.50. Currently, QuikLiq is only available in Miami, expanding to Georgia by the end of 2021.
Congratulations, this is a game changer!
