We’re back at Hillman!
According to Deadline, “A Different World” sequel centering around Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter is in early stage development at Netflix. The hit “Cosby Show” spinoff followed the lives of students at the fictitious Hillman College, igniting love for HBCUs worldwide and becoming a mainstay in the culture. One pair of students became a lasting symbol of Black love, the story of Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) sticking with us throughout the years. Now, a new sequel will tell the continuation of that love story, centered around the couple’s daughter, who is now a student at Hillman, her parents’ alma mater.
Original show creators Debbie Allen, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood have all returned as executive producers. Felicia Pride (Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy) will also come on as a writer and executive producer. The half-hour comedy series has not yet begun casting, but reports say that responses from original cast members to revive their roles have been positive.
The original cast from A Different World recently reunited to discuss the show’s impact and legacy, embarking on a 10-city HBCU tour to encourage student enrollment at historically Black colleges.
Now, Hillman is set to return for a new generation, and we can’t wait! No word yet on when the series will air.
