This is long overdue!
Veteran actor Garrett Morris is set to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Best known for his roles on hit sitcoms like Martin and The Jamie Foxx Show, Morris has a career spanning nearly five decades. A New Orleans native and graduate of Dillard University, Morris is finally receiving all of his flowers, chosen to receive the 2,771st star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on his 87th birthday, the Walk of Fame reports.
Morris got his start in the ’70s, with starring film roles in movies including “Cooley High” and “Who’s Your Caddy?.” After nearly two decades in the industry, he was catapulted into the spotlight after a stint on “Saturday Night Live.”
He went on to amass an array of television credits, while also working as a singer and arranger with Harry Belafonte and an active member of the civil rights movement. Morris helped to desegregate the Actor’s Equity Union and became a key part in the Black Arts Theater movement alongside poet Amiri Baraka. He is considered a legend in the industry, and The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce says they are elated to bestow this honor.
“Garrett Morris is a true entertainment icon and is ready for Prime Time on the Walk of Fame! He joins other SNL stars who are Walk of Famers, Chevy Chase, John Belushi, and Gilda Radner. We are so happy to honor him on…his 87th birthday and the 136th birthday of our beloved Hollywood!” said Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Morris is set to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Television on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 11:30 am PT. For more information, click here.
