Actor Woody McClain to Release New Comic Book Series, ‘The Brotherhood,’ Inspired by the Men in His Family

Woody McClain is stepping into the world of comics in a powerful way! 

The Power Book II: Ghost actor signed a publishing deal in 2023 with Black-owned “Godhood Comics” for his newly created comic book series, The Brotherhood, Black Enterprise reports. The project, co-written with DC Comics Milestone Initiative breakout writer Dorado Quick, brings a fresh and action-packed story to life, inspired by the men in McClain’s life.

Known best for his compelling performances in Power Book II: Ghost and his portrayal of Bobby Brown in The New Edition Story and The Bobby Brown Story, McClain previously expressed his excitement about the partnership.

“I’m excited to work with Godhood Comics and bring The Brotherhood to life,” McClain shared. “It’s an honor to work on a project that showcases the strength and resilience of the Black community. I can’t wait for readers to see what we have in store.”

The forthcoming comic series follows a young man who inadvertently finds himself entangled in a secret organization of Black men who have spent generations protecting and empowering Black Americans. The project has been described as The Kingsman meets James Bond, promising a high-stakes spy thriller filled with action and intrigue.

The creative team behind The Brotherhood includes Nicholas Maye, producer of the Oscar-winning short film Two Distant Strangers, who will serve as editor. He will collaborate with Godhood Comics founder, publisher, and writer Tyler F. Martin. Illustrabox Studio will bring the vibrant artwork to life, ensuring that the series captivates readers visually as well as narratively.

Godhood Comics Founder Tyler F. Martin previously expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing McClain’s dedication to elevating Black creatives.

“We are thrilled to partner with Woody McClain on The Brotherhood,” Martin said. “Given his star power, he could have taken this idea to any major comic publication, but his passion for storytelling and commitment to uplifting Black voices once again proves his dedication to the betterment of Black creatives. We can’t wait to share this series with the world.”

McClain, a proud HBCU alumnus of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU), continues to build an impressive career in both entertainment and now, the world of comic books. He took to social media to share more about his personal inspiration behind the series and a first look into the world of The Brotherhood. 

“I created an action comic book in honor of my grandpa and my uncle. These men taught me to wait on NO ONE AND GET IT DONE!!! I’m counting down the days until the release of The Brotherhood and hope I made y’all proud,” 

 With this latest venture, he’s not just telling stories—he’s ensuring that Black narratives remain front and center in every medium. While an official release date has yet to be announced, we cannot wait until The Brotherhood’s release.
