Disney has released the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King,” the prequel to the beloved 2019 live-action adaptation. Beyoncé will reprise her role as Nala, this time alongside her daughter Blue Ivy, making her debut as the voice of Kiara, the daughter of Queen Nala and King Simba.
Donald Glover is also set to reprise his role as King Simba in the Disney prequel, joining Beyoncé and an exceptional voice cast including John Kani, Thandiwe Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Keith David, and Tiffany Boone. Directed by Oscar-award-winning director Barry Jenkins, the film promises a captivating exploration of Mufasa’s origins.
Jenkins shared with PEOPLE that watching Beyoncé, “both on the screen and behind the screen, get to be a mother — and how that affected and impacted for the better the work that we were all doing — was just really awesome.”
The film is set to hit theaters on December 20th, 2024.
