A green lifestyle is the way to go!

A Black woman is opening a new plant-based food court in Atlanta, VegNews reports.

JaKarrea Walker, the owner of the vegan marketplace VegOut Atlanta, is preparing to open a new plant-based food court, VegCourt. The focus is providing quick, fresh and innovative meals all in one place, focusing on access to healthy alternatives for the community. Walker has already secured her first vendor, Dot’s Vegan Sol, a plant-based soul food eatery specializing in delicious delights such as banana cornbread, vegan salmon croquettes, conch fritters, and pigeon peas and rice.

“Though there are more vegan options becoming available, there lacks a consistent space where those who are vegan or seeking healthier food options can say, ‘Well, I know if I go here I can get a quick, quality, and fresh meal,” Walker said.

Walker has partnered with iFundWomen to crowdfund the development of the VegCourt, intending to raise $30,000. Donations will go towards the building, commercial kitchen equipment, licenses, permits, insurance and more. She also hopes that the space will provide an alternative to restaurateurs who can’t yet afford a brick and mortar store.

“There also lacks a space for local plant-based food providers who don’t have the money for the overhead of a restaurant or who want to focus on creating vegan meals to cater to their target market. I wanted to create that space. There are food courts and food halls for everyone else; why not one for us?” said Walker.
