Truly deserving!
Dionne Warwick is being honored with a street renaming in her hometown of East Orange, New Jersey, NJ.com reports. The 83-year-old icon is set to have North Arlington Avenue renamed after her, the ceremony set to take place just weeks before she’s inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“Can you imagine? A whole street in my name. So I want all of you to be there to celebrate with me, OK?” Warwick said in a video posted to social media.
A true pillar in pop culture, Warwick has a career spanning more than six decades and is known as much for her timeless hits as she is for her social media banner. The Jersey native is a longtime resident of South Orange and a graduate of East Orange High School. New Jersey Mayor Ted Green and the city council are set to honor Warwick at a ceremony this October.
“Dionne Warwick, a truly incomparable legend, has always been a source of pride for East Orange. Her extensive body of work as a musician and her legacy as a humanitarian is truly remarkable. It is our honor to commemorate her enduring legacy with this street renaming right in the vibrant heart of our Arts District, where her influence will continue to inspire and uplift the next generation of talented artists each and every day,” said Mayor Green.
This is the second significant honor bestowed on the icon in her city. East Orange is also home to the Dionne Warwick Institute of Entrepreneurship and Economics, a college and career readiness school servicing more than 8,000 scholars in grades K-12.
The new Dionne Warwick street renaming ceremony will take place on Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. on North Arlington Avenue at City Hall Plaza in East Orange, New Jersey.
