WE WANT THE FUNK!
Eddie Murphy is set to star in an upcoming biopic about Parliament-Funkadelic founder George Clinton, Blavity reports. Murphy will team up with Dreamgirls director Bill Condon to bring the story of the iconic funk collective to life. Clinton founded the group in the 1960s. Known for its Afrofuturistic imagery and otherworldly aesthetic, the group became a staple in the culture throughout the 1970s.
George Clinton superfan Catherine Davis first brought the idea to Murphy. The biopic will be based on Clinton’s 2014 memoir, Brothas Be, You Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You? The book chronicles Clinton’s life and how he navigated the ups and downs personally and professionally.
Virgil Williams (Mudbound) will screenwrite the project, and Murphy, Davis, and Clinton will executive produce it. There is no word yet on when the film will be released, but with a loyal legion of P Funk fans, we know they will flood the theaters for this!
