This is long overdue!
Erykah Badu is the undoubted Queen of Neo-Soul and a pioneering force in music. The 4x Grammy Award winning artist is renowned for her music globally, with a career spanning nearly three decades, she has continued to captivate audiences for generations. Second to her musical notoriety is Badu’s style, which cannot be understated. Known for her innovation, her style constantly challenges norms and pushes the boundaries of fashion. Now, Badu is being honored for her contributions to fashion, set to receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) 2024 Fashion Icon Award, ABC News reports.
“This honor is amazing, and I do not take it for granted. I’ve always had a love for taking bits and pieces of the things I am attracted to, and creating something far more grand than the sum of those parts. From the music I make, to the looks I put on, to the technology I’m developing, I’m always looking for innovative, exciting ways to be more expressive and connect with people – to be closer to nature,” Badu said via statement.
Badu is being celebrated for her work as a trailblazer in fashion. Recognizing the “Window Seat” singer for her eclectic fashion, the CFDA credits her with influencing designers, creatives, and pop culture worldwide.
“Erykah Badu and fashion are synonymous in many ways…Erykah effortlessly exudes herself, her unique point of view, through the clothing she chooses to wear…and each look she dreams up is so individual and true to herself,” said designer Thom Browne, CFDA chairman.
Badu now joins a shortlist of past CFDA icon honorees including Serena Williams, Rihanna, Zendaya and Pharrell Williams. The CFDA awards presented by Amazon Fashion is set to be held Oct. 28th at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
