Ahhhh this is going to be great!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Issa Rae is officially entering into the Spider-Verse sequel.
Sony Pictures Animation recently announced a sequel to the blockbuster animation Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The film, released in 2018, follows Spider-Man Miles Morales into an alternate universe as he encounters other Spider-People such as Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham. The film won an Oscar for best animated film and garnered a cult-like following, leaving viewers waiting on Spider-Verse sequels.
Now, a sequel has been announced with entertainment mogul Issa Rae joining the cast. A number of characters will be returning in their roles including Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen. Rae is set to voice Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return as producers and writers alongside David Callaham (Legend of the Ten Rings), with Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Christina Steinberg and Alonzo Ruvalcaba also producing. Peter Ramsey and Aditya Sood will executive produce with Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson directing.
Sony has not yet revealed a full storyline but we are sure it will be exciting. Rae is currently filming her final season of HBO’s Insecure and is gearing up for a number of other projects including the second season of A Black Lady Sketch Show which she is executive producing.
The Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse sequel is set to be released October 7, 2022.
