An indomitable force!
Issa Rae launches Hoorae Media, consolidating her TV, film, and digital projects under one umbrella, The Grio reports.
Rae announced the launching of her new media company, Hoorae, formerly known as Issa Rae Productions. The new venture includes HBO’s “Insecure” and “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” as well as “Tre Cnt,” the “Seen & Heard” docuseries, “Rap S-” (HBO Max), “Perfect Strangers” (Spyglass), “Ghost in the Machine” (Netflix), and “Sinkhole,” a movie based on a short story by Leyna Krow that Rae will star in and co-produce alongside Jordan Peele, Monkeypaw and Universal.
This year, Rae received eight Emmy nominations for Insecure and one for her role as executive producer for A Black Lady Sketch Show. In addition to her production and starring roles, Rae also launched a record label, Raedio, in collaboration with Atlantic Records and diversified her investment portfolio with the opening of her new Inglewood coffee shop and her tech investment in data ownership company Streamlytics.
According to Variety, Rae has named veteran executive Sara Rastogi senior vice president of development at Hoorae and Montrel McKay as president of Hoorae film and TV. Raedio will also fall under the new umbrella corp along with ColorCreative, a management company run by Talitha Watkins and Deniese Davis.
“Working with Issa, Montreal and the whole team has been refreshing and rewarding. Issa invests in people and has cultivated an empowering company culture that allows us to take big risks, challenge ourselves, and industry norms. I am excited to continue growing with the company, in short Hoorae!,” Rastogi said.
Despite her success, Rae recently spoke to journalist Elaine Welteroth about her desire to do more. “Every single time you do something, there’s a moving goal post. I still feel like I have so much more to do and so much more to prove. To the point of competing, I guess, with myself or with some invisible being just ahead of me, I don’t feel any impact yet. And a lot of that comes with time…I need more time,” Rae said.
Well time is on your side Issa, and we’re excited because it looks like you’ll be here for a long while.
Congratulations!
