He’s making his mother proud!
Grammy-award-winning producer Metro Boomin is giving back to his hometown in a major way, honoring his mother’s legacy by uplifting women in St. Louis, Variety reports.
Metro Boomin, renowned for his signature beats on tracks with elite hip-hop artists like Future and Kanye West, has made a generous donation of $100,000 to five non-profit organizations in his hometown that focus on supporting single moms. This significant initiative is not just a philanthropic act but a testament to the profound influence of his own mother, who inspired him to uplift women in his community.
“I’ve seen firsthand the work that goes into being a single mother. Mine was my inspiration and my hero. It’s very important to me to pay it forward because I see the same resilience and dedication in the women these organizations work with,” Metro said via statement.
Through his partnership with Rung for Women and Amazon Access, Metro Boomin has strategically directed his donation to directly alleviate the financial challenges faced by women. These organizations, including Almost Home, Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation, the Haven of Grace, the Little Bit Foundation, and Parents as Teachers, all received $20,000 each. The funds will go towards providing support with things like childcare, rent, and debt reduction—lightening the heavy burdens that women often bear alone.
The first Black woman mayor of St. Louis, Tishaura Jones, was on hand to give out the checks to the local nonprofits just before Metro’s St. Louis Cardinals-themed night, where a portion of ticket proceeds also went to benefitting Rung for Women. The donation funds were raised during a special holiday event back in December, the Leslie Joanne Soirée, named after Metro Boomin’s late mother. A single mom and the backbone for the St. Louis producer, she was tragically killed in a murder-suicide that occurred in June 2022. Now, Metro has dedicated himself to contributing to initiatives that reflect the profound impact she had on his life.
Metro Boomin’s efforts are not a one-time act of charity. He is laying a solid foundation for a sustained commitment to the women of St. Louis. Rung for Women is currently serving as the fiduciary agent for Metro Boomin, anticipating the launch of his own independent foundation dedicated to this cause, ensuring a lasting impact on the city that raised him.“We are excited to partner with Metro Boomin in his work to lift up single mothers in St. Louis. Inspired by the remarkable love he has for his late mother, he is demonstrating a commitment to women and to our community,” said Leslie Gill, president of Rung for Women.
