Michelle Obama has teamed up with Questlove to release a new podcast on the life of Stevie Wonder. Produced under Obama’s Higher Ground Media banner and Questlove’s Two One Five Entertainment productions, “The Wonder Of Stevie” is a 7 episode series chronicling what is considered the iconic musician’s “classic period.”
“Stevie put genius albums together every single year for a five-year period, and none of it, none of it felt the same. He does lyrics, he does every genre, he does it all. He is a master, and you just gotta hear it. These albums have meant so much to so many people, including me,” says the Former First Lady in the new podcast trailer.
The podcast deep dives into the period between Stevie Wonder’s Music Of My Mind (1972) and Songs In The Key Of Life (1976), outlining a five-album run that completely changed the course of music history. Music aficionado Questlove says he “personally pleaded the case” to include more of Wonder’s albums, citing his 1979 Journey Of The Secret Life Of Plants and Wonder’s 1980 classic Hotter Than July, so here’s hoping we’ll get a part two.
“The Wonder Of Stevie” is currently available for streaming on Audible or wherever you get your podcasts and features appearances from Michelle and Barack Obama, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Janelle Monae, and Stevie Wonder himself.
New York Times art and pop culture critic Wesley Morris serves as host.
