The industry’s most famous underdog has done it again!
Deadline is reporting that entertainment powerhouse Nick Cannon is teaming up with Lionsgate to host and produce a new daytime talk show.
Cannon is one of the few notable figures in entertainment who has literally done it all. He is a comedian, actor, writer, director, producer, DJ, activist and philanthropist who has had lasting success in nearly every facet of the industry.
The multihyphenate just wrapped his first season as host of Fox’s No.1 show, The Masked Singer, which garnered more than 17 million views during its 2018 debut. He also was the host of NBC’s America’s Got Talent for 8 seasons while simultaneously working as producer and creator of the wildly popular MTV sketch show Wild ‘N Out for the last 13 seasons. Over the summer, Cannon also dove headfirst into radio, launching Power 106’s Nick Cannon Mornings in Los Angeles. We’re tired just writing this!
For his next act, Cannon is partnering with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury to produce a nationally syndicated show in conjunction with his Ncredible Entertainment company. Debmar-Mercury Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein released a statement saying, “We are excited to be able to announce this collaboration with Nick, who has proven himself to be such a dominant creative and entrepreneurial force across film, primetime TV, music, comedy, stage and online platforms. The two said that after Cannon’s outstanding performance as guest host of The Wendy Williams Show, they “can’t wait to see Nick put his own unique stamp on talk and add daytime to his impressive list of accomplishments.”
The 38 year old entertainment mogul also credits his stint on The Wendy Williams Show as the spark for his launch into daytime television. “After leaving America’s Got Talent, I wanted to focus on developing my own talk show. I’ve always dreamed of a platform where I can speak to America and discuss pop culture, as well as the topics on everyone’s minds. When I had the opportunity to guest host at my good friend Wendy Williams’ show this year, I experienced the energy and excitement of a daytime talk show and instantly knew I found my audience,” said Cannon.
The new show is expected to air in 2020. Congratulations! We’ll be on the lookout!
